Toyota Etios Liva Overview
It seems like Toyota had already broken the mould with the Etios LIVA even before the hatchback’s launch. How? Well, normal practice for most manufacturers at least in India has been to launch the hatchback first and then stick a boot on to it after a few months. So it did come as a bit of a surprise when the extremely spacious Etios sedan was launched first in India. Toyota opted to hold back the hatchback. It’s here now though and the Toyota Etios Liva promises to not only live up to its suffix but also to the ‘breaking the mould’ theme in many more aspects. While the Etios Liva may not seem overly revolutionary at first glance, over time it will truly prove to be just so. Check for low interest car loans on Toyota Etios Liva at Fincarz.
Toyota Etios Liva Look
Toyota Etios Liva is an insightfully designed and supremely attractive hatchback. It is neither too curvaceous nor too muscular – but strikes just the perfect balance! Its frontage is highlighted by a sleek yet bold grille that has a brilliant chrome finish to it. The front fog lamps and intermittent wiper adds to the appeal. Toyota has kept the bumpers, door handles and the Outside Rear-View Mirrors (ORVMs) of the same colour as the body and this underscores the visual delight that the car generates. The wing mirrors come with built-in turn indicators that pronounce the marriage of style and functionality.
The sleek, fin-patterned rear combination lamps add to the dynamic look of the automobile. The blacked-out B-pillar and the sturdy yet stylish 12-spoke alloys give it a dash of sportiness. Liva comes equipped with a foldable, roof-mounted antenna and the chrome garnish on its boot spices it even more. Dimensionally, Toyota Etios Liva measures 3.78 m in length, 1.7 m in width and is 1.51 m high.
Toyota Etios Liva Comfort
On prima facie, the interior of Etios Liva makes two words pop up instantaneously – Space and Comfort! It provides abundant legroom, headroom and shoulder room to the passengers, and the comfortable seats make journeys seem like cakewalk. The bi-tonal premium interiors add volumes of sophistication inside. The dashboard is beautifully textured, the seat fabric is marvellously soothing, and the ash brown colours lend a dashing and swanky look. The tri-spoke steering wheel and the shift knob have silver accents on them, and the door trims have a wood finish that adds a chic touch to the interior of Liva.
The driver’s seat is height-adjustable and so are the headrests. The hatchback comes with power windows and the one on the driver’s side comes with auto-down function. Etios Liva is equipped with front cabin lights, a 12 V power outlet, cooled glove box, day/night inside rear-view mirror, and sun visors for the driver and the co-passenger. In-cabin entertainment is high in Liva, thanks to the refined audio system that comes with a remote and four speakers that boast an incredible sound quality. For easy access to the driver, audio controls are mounted on the steering wheel as well. The AC unit is pretty effective and so is the air filter. The boot has a capacity of 251 L and Liva also has storage spaces in the guise of seven bottle holders, and front and rear door pockets. For added convenience, the fuel lid and the tail gate are remote-operative.For Toyota Etios Liva check iiitdm
Toyota Etios Liva Gearbox
The engine is a reworked version of the 88PS D-4D unit from the Corolla Altis. The variable geometry turbo from the Altis has been swapped for a fixed geometry unit to keep costs to a minimum. Resultant power output is 68PS at 3800rpm while there’s 170Nm of torque. Toyota is particularly proud of the flat torque curve of the engine with max torque available from 1800 to 2400rpm. But what they’re really kicked about is the mileage figure of 23.59. Which happens to be one of the highest in the segment. And more importantly 1kmpl more than the new Swift diesel.
The engine delivers its power in a very linear fashion and there’s neither much lag nor a strong kick from the turbo. The Liva isn’t much of a speed demon but she’s more than happy pottering around at slower speeds. The even spread of power and short travel clutch make the Liva diesel an easy car to drive in city. The engine does however struggle at higher revs and could’ve done with a bit more poke up top. NVH levels are surprisingly high as well and far too much engine noise filters into the cabin for our liking. View offers on Toyota Cars from Toyota dealers in Hyderabad at Autozhop.
The test route chalked out for us at the launch event was a smooth 13km stretch of winding road. Now 68PS doesn’t sound like much and we weren’t surprised to find the Liva has to be manhandled to things really moving. You have to work the 5 speed manual to extract the most from the engine. That’s when you realize the shift action while short is rather notchy, not as smooth as the petrol. There’s also significant body roll when hustled through the corners. The petrol Liva rolls around as well but the added 60kgs of engine weight hasn’t done any favours to the already soft front end. Ride quality though is still as comfy as the petrol.
