The Fiat Linea 125S is a higher powered version of the Linea T-Jet. The Linea has always been a connoisseur’s choice and it has some unique things about it. Fiat Linea Style
The 125 S features the same design traits as the facelifted Linea that was launched in 2014. The layout is clean as ever with the only new addition being the ‘125 S’ plastic sticker that sits beneath the T-Jet badge on the boot. It’s still contemporary and the car’s classy persona is supported by elements like the slim chrome strip in the air dam, chrome slat in the rear bumper and of course, the distinctive oval muffler tip.
However, what we would’ve liked is more radical colour options or just something to add that all-important feel-good factor for a buyer who’s making such a ‘heart-first’ decision. We fell in love with the ‘Safire Blue’ paint scheme and black alloy wheels of the 125 S when it was showcased at the auto expo earlier this year. For some reason, Fiat has opted against offering either one these options, which is a let-down.
Fiat Linea Space
The interiors have the same layout. However, what the Fiat Linea 125S gets are some additional features. For instance, there is now a touchscreen system which also has navigation. The Microsoft Blue & Me is now gone. The new touchscreen is a bit small, but it is good enough. The Fiat Linea 125S gets rich leather interiors and speaks a lot about attention to quality. Where the Linea excels is clean interiors with decent stowage space.
The Linea 125S comes loaded with features like automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers and in fact this is the only sedan in its segment that still offers the twin-aero wipers, which are a lot more expensive than the regular wipers. The tough build quality and the spacious interiors make Fiat Linea a great sedan. The rear legroom is not in the league of most sedans though. The 500 litres of boot space is also large and offers more loading area due to the hydraulic lifts present. The Fiat Linea 125S has one of the best builds in the industry.
Fiat Linea Engine
The Linea 125S is powered by the same 1.4-litre turbocharged T-Jet petrol engine which does duty in the Linea T-Jet and Avventura. The Linea 125S gets a higher state of tune, though. The car now churns out 125bhp of power as again 112bhp of he regular Linea T-jet. This is the same engine that also powers the Abarth Punto and the Abarth 595 Competizione, but in different states of tune. The engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The Fiat Linea 125S is a scorcher and an extremely fun to drive machine. Fiat cars are known for their excellent ride and handling and also their precise steering feedback. The Fiat Linea 125S is not any different. This car is squarely aimed at self-driven enthusiasts.
Get behind the wheel and you will fall in love with it. The Linea T-JET was perfect and this one is just even better. Fiat cars are so much fun to drive and the Linea is another great example of it. The Linea T-JET is one of the most fun cars to drive and own.The Fiat Linea 125S delivers a fuel efficiency of around 10-14 km/l in a mix of city and highway driving.
Fiat Linea Driving
The Fiat Linea has always had good handling but it kind of went for a toss when Fiat increased the car’s ground clearance to 190 mm. Still, it doesn’t disappoint at all and chucking the Linea into corners is fun. It comes shod with Apollo Alnac tyres which offer pretty decent levels of grip. Ride quality is brilliant and the suspension is capable of absorbing most bumps that come your way. The Linea feels comfortable to drive around and doesn’t make you feel tired. Even the brakes have a lot of bite and stopping power is excellent.
Fiat Linea Safety
The Fiat Linea 125S comes with ABS and dual front airbags. There is no other safety tech on offer. Fiat’s service has been pretty dismal and there are very few service centres in the country. This is one of the major downsides of even recommending the Linea to anyone. Ownership experience isn’t that great and with hardly any dealers in sight, where will you book your car?

Fiat Linea Conclusion
Fiat has done well to introduce the new updates and, true to its core values, the brand hasn’t shifted focus away from the driver. By giving the T-Jet motor more power, the Italians have made the 125 S one of the best driver’s cars you can buy at a reasonable price (Rs 10.46 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi). However, these token additions aren’t enough to make the Linea sell significantly better. Apart from Fiat’s sales and service network being more of a gamble than a bet, the Linea itself is showing its age and even Fiat lovers are shying away to more proven alternatives. The company needs to revamp its presence in India and go beyond the Linea-Punto formula to win over new buyers and reassure the loyalists that Fiat is indeed, crafted for car lovers.
